Part-time Teacher Training- Could this be the Right Career Path for You?

Saying farewell to our part-time Associate Teachers in December was a bittersweet moment. As we met for the final time at the magical Story Museum in Oxford. The occasion provided an opportunity to delve into why the part-time route had become the preferred path into teaching for many.

For numerous individuals, opting for the part-time option on their journey to becoming qualified teachers offered a crucial balance between professional aspirations and personal commitments. The part-time option provided a manageable and feasible route into teaching that might otherwise have been unattainable.

Karima, who embraced the part-time route and recently commenced her role as a secondary MFL teacher, shared her perspective: ” The part-time route into teaching was an unforgettable experience. I enjoyed every aspect of it, learning all about teaching strategies such as behaviour and planning. I also really appreciate how well thought through the placements are. It was amazing.”

Chloe, another part-time route graduate, echoed the sentiment: “The part-time route was the only viable option for me with very young children. Training part-time allowed me to balance both home and my teaching journey, preparing me well for a fulfilling career in education. I would not have gone into teaching at this time in my life had it not been for the part time programme – I am incredibly grateful. I am now beginning my career as a part-time teacher in one of my placement schools.”

Our final voice is that of Sam, expressing the sentiment shared by many: “Embarking on the part-time route into teaching has been transformative for me. The well-structured course, with its thoughtful scheduling and two placements, allowed me to seamlessly integrate my training with my existing commitments. The relationships formed during training days, alongside both part-time and full-time Associate Teachers, have been invaluable. I wholeheartedly recommend this option to anyone seeking a career in teaching who may, for whatever reason, feel the part-time option is better suited to them.’
