Joseph Thomas
PE & History
For me the OTT SCITT has given me the opportunity to teach exactly what I wished, PE & History together. This was the only teacher training course I found, which could offer me this combination of subjects. I’d applied late in the year, as I’d been in Australia playing cricket. Marion Rawlings, SCITT Manager was incredible. She was both reassuring and understanding, subsequent communication was great! Other teacher training courses I had made enquiries to seemed disinterested and led me to believe it was too late to apply.
The Recruitment and Selection Day was very well constructed. There are many different aspects to the interview process and you definitely get the opportunity to demonstrate all the qualities you wish to show.
The weekly Hub sessions are fabulous, they give you an opportunity to come together and share your experience with others in the same position, which is invaluable. There is a nice community feel, which is very reassuring.
The training includes Subject Specialist Days, which have been awesome, for both PE and History alike. On these days you get in depth knowledge from experts in your subject, you then have the opportunity to take these new ideas back to your placement school and try out and show your mentors.
The time spent at each placement school allows you to really feel a part of the team within the school; you really do own the classes you teach.
The communication and support network at the SCITT is there if you need it. I fully believe everyone is catered for and if you want to do well on this course, you will!
